So, it’s been a long time since I last released songs of my own. I focused on producing other artists the last number of years – who all kept asking why I don’t release anything and ‘do you still write new songs, Andrew?’
They were right, I didn’t really write anything ‘me’ anymore… I just co-wrote with the artists I produced…
Until I decided that enough was enough. I had to try and see if I still had ‘it’. I was lucky enough to get subsidies from both the Dutch Ministry of OCW (through Buma/Stemra) and the Sena (Muziek Productiefonds) to fund the purchase of fat necked Fender Telecaster and some studio equipment and to cover general studio costs – and off I went!
It took me a little while to get started and get into the songwriter’s mindset again. And then suddenly the songs started flowing out. All of this culminated in my new EP ‘Love, Solitude & Life’, containing seven new songs. I wrote the songs, played all instruments (apart from Flugelhorn by Patrick Rothweiler and French Horn by Filippo Tramontana, both on the song ‘About You’), recorded and produced it all. Plus I did the mixing and mastering. 😅
Now that I’ve re-experienced the thrill and the rush of making my own music, I most certainly am not done yet! I really, really enjoy writing, recording and producing my own stuff. Songs about me or about things I thought up. I am certainly going to create more in the near future!
